FIVE years ago the world was stumbling into a chasm. Of course the signal fact about the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers and the financial and political chaos that followed was that it led to the most significant real-economy disaster of the postwar era. Panic on Wall Street was a wrenching spectacle. Yet the goal of saving the banks and stemming the panic was not, for the most part, preservation of any particular quarter of the finance industry for its own sake. It was to prevent a Depression. In that policymakers enjoyed success only by the miserable comparison of the Great Contraction of the 1930s. Output and employment fell by much less than they did from 1929-1933. For all the economic pain of the global recession things never got bad enough to unravel the institutions of liberalism, to make tyranny and war attractive options. Yet things were bad enough. Global trade collapsed. America lost 5.4m jobs from September of 2008 to April of 2009.

I like what I am doing for them. I like that I am able to create recipes using my favorite foods. In these two past issues (August 2013; October 2013), the food column tells you about arugula, and beets. Green and red. Both amazing colors and ingredients to style and photograph, I thought.

That’s a lower price than either the RAV4 or CR-V but higher than Mazda’s CX-5. You can compare all three along with the 2013 Rogue here . Moving the new Rogue is the old 2.5-liter four-cylinder from the current model with identical power numbers of 170 horsepower and 175 pounds-feet of torque. But Nissan expects mileage to improve some 18% to 33 mpg highway for front-wheel-drive models when EPA ratings are released. Overall, the interior looks to be on par with the company’s Altima midsize sedan versus the Sentra compact with the top-of-the-line SL with leather shown in these images looking especially upscale.

As to be expected in a concept car, cabin materials appear top-notch. Leather wrapping adorns swaths of the car’s dashboard; Infiniti says the black panels elsewhere have hints of bronze. The front seats have enormous leather straps that line the bolsters and ceramic upper sections with integrated speakers. Real metal covers other various surfaces. No doubt some materials won’t make the production car, but the design — whose asymmetric layout appeals — should carry forth. Infiniti says it aimed the Q30 at a “new generation of premium customers.” Read: young people — that is, affluent young people, and the same ones targeted by everything from the BMW i3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class to the Lexus CT 200h .

Porsche is busy testing the upcoming Macan , and it looks like with every test the crossover starts losing more and more camouflage. The latest test took place on the Nurburgring race track, and,as you can easily see, the prototype caught here is almost completely uncovered.
The only camouflage we can see is on the headlights — they are hidden under stickers in an attempt to make them bigger — on the small side windows and on the thinner taillights. Everything else is revealed in all its glory and it is now obvious that the Macan will look like its big brother, the Cayenne .
When it comes to the engine lineup though, the Macan will be a little bit different than the Cayenne. The base version will get a four-cylinder engine with 220 horsepower, while the Turbo version will get a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 rated at 370 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.
Expect to see the Porsche Macan at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show .
The prototype caught testing today makes it clear that the Macan will look like a miniaturized Cayenne. Up front, you can see the signature Porsche headlights and air intakes, but the company decided to keep them camouflaged in an attempt to make them bigger.
The rear will also look similar to the Cayenne, but it will feature smaller and thinner rear lights, which were disguised by large stickers in these shots.
